NCCC Spring Sports Preview: Baseball

After losing in the National Championship game last year, the NCCC baseball team has unfinished business for this season.  The team opens up this season in Florida on March 14th vs. Rowan College at Gloucester and conference play will begin on April 3rd vs Erie Community College.

NCCC enters this season as the number two ranked division three junior college team in the country. Nevertheless, this year’s team has some big holes to fill after star players such as Christian Young, David Lyskawa, and Joe Milkowski have all moved on to 4-year schools. However, with a strong returning group of sophomores and a promising group of freshman, Coach Clingersmith’s team is ready for another Junior College World Series birth.

“The pitching staff has a lot of depth and we have a lot more speed on the bases this year” says Jacob Lewis, a pitcher on the NCCC baseball team.  Lewis goes on to explain “Pitching is the key to championships”.  The NCCC baseball program has been known for its pitching staff in recent years, as well as an excellent offense.  Hopefully this will be the key for another run at the at it all this season.
